Lynchburg, Va -- The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team fell to Randolph-Macon 22-8 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference quarterfinals Tuesday night.
The first quarter offered a fairly evenly matched contest as both sides shared even shots and turnovers. Randolph-Macon struck first and found a second less than a minute later before the Hornets drew back into the game through a free position opportunity. The Yellow Jackets were determined to pull away and despite several promising moments for Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon finished the first period with a 6-3 advantage.
Randolph-Macon continued with the momentum gathered in the first quarter and notched two early goals in the second. Almost halfway through the quarter, the game was forcefully halted due to lightning, however the action would resume 30 minutes later. After play resumed, Sydney Dumas found the net and shortly doubled her luck to pull the game within three goals. With only two minutes left in the half, the Yellow Jackets seized the opportunity to regain control of the game and found three late goals to take the halftime score to 11-5.
Randolph-Macon pulled away even further in the second half and started the third quarter with three early goals. The Yellow Jackets went on a five-goal run before Tori King converted her free position opportunity to break the streak. Randolph-Macon stifled Lynchburg attacks, preventing shots and holding the Hornets to only one successful clear throughout the quarter. Lynchburg went into the final period down 17-6.
Lynchburg found more attacking success through Dumas in the fourth quarter, although ultimately, Randolph-Macon proved too prolific in the attack and fortified defensively. Despite another two goals of four on the night for Dumas, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Hornets 22-8.Â
Lynchburg failed to repeat its in-season success against Randolph-Macon, while the Yellow Jackets knocked the Hornets out of the conference tournament for the second year in a row. Dumas led the team in goals, assists, and points for the season while Bradley and Neely Morris reached new season highs for goals.
