Field Hockey Opens Season At Home vs. DePauw

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team is the first Hornet squad to host a competition on Shellenberger Field this fall season. The field hockey crew is set to play DePauw on Saturday, August 31 at 1 p.m.

After being on staff as an assistant coach since 2015, head coach Jenni Releford is set to embark on her first season as the leader of the Hornets' field hockey team. Releford has been a part of four ODAC Championship teams and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals twice during her tenure in the Hill City.

The Hornets last competed against DePauw on Aug. 30, 2013, where the Tigers grabbed the victory, 2-1. 11 years later, this Lynchburg squad is ready to start the season on a high note.

Saturday's contest is the first of nine nonconference competitions for Lynchburg this season. The first ODAC competition of the season takes place on October 2, when the Hornets host Bridgewater.
