Box Score Fredericksburg, Va. -- Freshman forward
Jill Pleiter buried the only two goals of the game to help the No. 10 Lynchburg field hockey squad to a 2-0 victory at Mary Washington on Thursday night at the Battleground Turf.
Pleiter came off the bench and had a tremendous impact in just 30 minutes of action. She was able to find the back of the net on both of her shots on goal, once on a breakaway with 9:48 left in the second period and again with 6:07 remaining in the third frame. Pleiter now has three goals in just three games this season, with her other from this past weekend's contest against Stockton.
The Hornets (3-0) were firing early, letting off seven shots in the first 15-minutes of game time. Overall in the outing, Lynchburg peppered the cage with 18 total shots and 15 on goal while holding Mary Washington to just four shots all game and one on net. Eagles net-minder Tori Winans played the whole affair and stopped 10 shots.Â
Other offensive threats for the Hornets included
Anna Dorrestijn, who blasted five shots on goal in the matchup and
Callie Short, who racked up three shots on frame in just 22 minutes of play. Coming into the game, Lynchburg ranked atop the ODAC in goals per game (3.5) and goals against average (0.5).
The field hockey crew looks to ride the momentum into this weekend when it takes on Ursinus in Collegeville, Pa. on Saturday, September 14 at 1 p.m.Â
