Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team hosted its first dual meet of the season and lost to College of Charleston, 6-4, on Saturday morning.
The three-time defending National Collegiate Equestrian Association single-discipline national champion Hornets posted four scores of 80-or-higher, but ultimately fell in a close contest.Â
The squads started with fences, which went Charleston's way, 4-1.
Emma Schweizer posted the highest score of the day for the Hornets with a score of 81 riding Kevin.
Fallyn Belcastro earned a score of 80 riding HD and Maddy Rubin awarded Lynchburg its sole point of the fences event with a score of 79 on Tommy. Although the home equestrian crew had a strong showing in the fences event, Charleston edged out the majority of the team points.
The Hornets had a solid overall performance in the flat, taking three of the five available team points. Belcastro and
Lucy Metzler each posted scores of 80 riding Eragon and Van Gogh, respectively, and each earned team points for Lynchburg.
Devyn Borden earned a score of 79 riding Caleb and grabbed the final point of the meet for the Hornets.
The Lynchburg equestrian team returns to action tomorrow to square off against Centenary University on Sunday, September 29 at 9 a.m. The meet will be streamed live and have live results available. To view results from today's meet against Charleston,
