Virginia Beach, Va. -- After winning three consecutive games at home, the University of Lynchburg men's soccer team dropped its road match against Virginia Weselyan, 2-0, on Saturday evening.
The Hornets (3-2-2, 1-1-0) rode the momentum of their three-game win streak into the first half of the contest, firing off 12 shots in the first half, including three on goal in the first seven minutes of play. Although the Lynchburg offense was hard at work, it was unable to convert any of its shots in the outing.
Lynchburg out-shot Virginia Wesleyan by a margin of 18 to 13, and the Hornets had more of their shots on frame with 12 compared to the Marlins' 3. Midfielder/forward
Manzi Shalita paced the Lynchburg offense with six total shots and four on cage. Netminder Ben Haynes stopped nine shots in the affair and headlined the strong Va. Wesleyan side.

Keaton Napior took down a Virginia Wesleyan performer inside the box and awarded the Marlins a penalty kick, which midfielder Alex Moody proceeded to score on. The other Virginia Wesleyan goal came in the 63rd minute from defender Gio Zizza and was assisted by midfielder Ilan Mejia and defender Aaron Deans. The Marlins would hold the advantage for the entirety of the competition.
Holding an even 1-1 record in conference play, the Hornets look forward to their next matchup against Averett in Danville, Va. on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. The match will have live stats available and will be streamed live.
