Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team notched its first dual meet win of the season against Centenary with a 7-2 final on Sunday morning.
The No. 1 Hornets (1-1) came into the contest determined to improve on their previous showing against College of Charleston. Lynchburg performed incredibly in the flat, scoring 82-or-higher in each of its five rides.
Lucy Metzler and
Devyn Borden tied for the highest scores of the day, each receiving 89 in the flat. Metzler was awarded the Most Outstanding Performer for flat.
Beginning with fences, the Hornets grabbed three of the five available team points.
Emma Schweizer and Mackenna Moss each produced scores of 82 and earned team points, Schweizer rode Colin and Moss rode HD. Maddy Rubin also had an impressive showing in the fences event, scoring 81 riding Kevin.
Rebecca Collier earned the final fences team point for Lynchburg with a score of 70 riding Tommy.Â
Heading into the flat with a 3-2 advantage, the Hornets controlled the board and did not allow Centenary to earn another point. Aside from Metzler and Borden's standout performances, Abagail Zemp earned a score of 85 riding Carl while Schweizer and
Fallyn Belcastro were bestowed scores of 82 riding Van Gogh and Rolo, respectively.
Lynchburg returns to action next weekend when it hosts an IHSA event. The University of Lynchburg IHSA will take place in Rustburg, Va. on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6, each day beginning at 9 a.m.
