Forest, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer senior
Meredith Bowers was a wall between the pipes in two shutouts this week, earning her the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Across two contests this week, Bowers held both opponents scoreless. She was a vital piece in both of the team's shutouts, especially in the 1-0 victory against Mary Washington. Bowers faced six shots on frame against the Eagles and stopped them all. Against Guilford, her presence in net allowed her to earn a second consecutive shutout with one save on the stat sheet.
Bowers earns ODAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her collegiate career. The senior netminder has a total of 30 stops this season and seven goals allowed for a save percentage of .811, which ranks fifth in the conference. The Dayton, Va. native averages 5.0 saves per outing, ranking fifth in the ODAC.
Lynchburg's next affair takes place on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. when it welcomes Washington and Lee for a nonconference matchup on Shellenberger Field.Â
