Lynchburg Returns Home To Face Bridgewater

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is geared up for a home contest against ODAC foe Bridgewater on Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m.

The Hornets (6-9, 3-5) are ready to square up against a strong Eagles squad that is receiving votes in the national top 25 poll. Lynchburg comes into the competition on a three-game skid, most recently dropping a matchup against Randolph, 62-59. Sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn scored a team-leading 15 points in the outing, making five-of-eight from beyond the arc, while senior guard Olivia Harris and freshman guard Audra Petty tallied 12 points apiece.

Since 1995, Lynchburg trails in the series against Bridgewater, 34-13. The most recent victory for the Hornets came on Feb. 15, 2020, when they claimed a 67-59 triumph. The last five affairs have all gone the Eagles' way. Last time out, Bridgewater earned a 66-56 victory on Dec. 16, 2023.

Junior forward Bree Spainhour (11.3 points per game), Harris (11.0 ppg.) and Littlejohn (10.5 ppg.) all average double-figure scoring for the Hornets this season. Petty (9.7 ppg.) leads the ODAC in 3-point percentage with .417 percent and is the only player in the conference to average above 40% from long range this season. As a team, Lynchburg holds opponents to the lowest 3-point percentage at .222 percent while Bridgewater has the highest 3-point percentage, shooting at a .296 percent clip from 3-point range.

While the Hornets are slotted in 10th place in the conference standings, the Eagles currently sit atop the conference with an unblemished 9-0 ODAC record. Bridgewater currently allows the least amount of points per game in the conference this season with an average of 44.5 opponent points per game and scores the fourth most with 64.4 average points per outing.

Graduate Jaden Alsberry leads the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game and has totaled 58 combined steals and blocks this season. Junior Riley Corcoran (11.1 points per game) has dished out a team-high 34 assists while junior Jay Garcia (10.6 ppg.) grabs 9.5 rebounds per outing, the fourth-most in the conference.

Next up for Lynchburg is a midweek bout against Roanoke on Wednesday, January 29 at 7 p.m. in Turner Gymnasium.
