Spainhour Hits Career-High 24 Points In Loss To Roanoke

Lynchburg, Va. -- Junior forward Bree Spainhour notched a career-best 24 points in the University of Lynchburg women's basketball's 73-61 loss to Roanoke on Wednesday night in Turner Gymnasium.

The Hornets (6-11, 3-7) Spainhour, senior guard Olivia Harris (12 points) and freshman guard Audra Petty (10 points). Spainhour's 24 points came off of nine-of-13 field goals and a perfect six-of-six from the foul line. She also grabbed a team-high seven boards and blocked one shot. Harris dished out five dimes and swiped two steals.

Lynchburg started off strong, scoring the first five points of the game off a Spainhour layup and long range shot from Harris. The Hornets had a 20-9 advantage with 2:45 to go in the first quarter and held a lead of seven-or-more into the second period.

At the 8:15 mark in the second quarter, Roanoke's Paige Breuer hit a 3-pointer and Peyton Kirchner followed with another. Consecutive buckets from Breuer and Nadia Snesarev gave the Maroons their first edge at 27-26 with 5:13 left in the first half. Roanoke scored six straight points to end the half and went into the intermission with a five point advantage. Out of the break, the Maroons extended their lead to nine with back-to-back baskets.

Trailing by 10 with six minutes remaining in the third period, Lynchburg strung together a run of 14-straight points to take a four-point advantage with 52 seconds on the clock in the period. Spainhour contributed six points during the stretch, Petty added four, and Harris and sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn each produced two. Roanoke responded with 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and did not trail for the remainder of the outing.

Breuer tallied a team-high 22 points for the Maroons, while Kirchner and Mariah Cain totaled 12 and 10 points, respectively. As a team, Roanoke ended the game shooting .480 percent from the field (24-of-50) and .444 percent (eight-of-18) from beyond the arc to Lynchburg's .211 percent (four-of-19).
