Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team squared off against ODAC foe Guilford and fell, 82-52, on Saturday afternoon in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
The Hornets (6-12, 3-8) had junior forward
Bree Spainhour, senior guard
Olivia Harris, and sophomore guard
Kate Littlejohn score in double-figures. Following a career-high 24 points against Roanoke, Spainhour totaled 13 points while Harris and Littlejohn tallied 12 points apiece. Harris also swiped three steals in the outing. Freshman guard
Audra Petty grabbed a team-high eight boards in the affair.Â
After the opening whistle, the score was knotted on four occasions and the lead changed four times in the opening period. Guilford equaled the score at 15-15 with 4:11 left in the first quarter, which sparked a run of nine straight points. Following that overtaking of the lead, the Quakers did not trail for the remainder of the contest. Guilford's advantage stretched to double-digits at the 6:50-mark in the second period and stayed at 10-or-more from then on.
As a squad, Lynchburg got the edge on the glass with 45 rebounds to Guilford's 44. The difference was the turnover margin, as the Hornets gave up the ball 26 times while the Quakers had 16 team turnovers. Guilford snagged 20 steals in tonight's contest and ranks atop the conference in steals per game with an average of 16.85.
Next time out, Lynchburg returns home for a midweek matchup against Averett on Wednesday, February 5 at 5 p.m.
