Hornets Gear Up For Road Trip To Guilford

Lynchburg, Va. -- After back-to-back games on the home court, the University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set to hit the road to square off against Guilford on Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m.

The Hornets (6-11, 3-7) kick off the month of February with another conference bout against a solid Quaker team that is 11-8 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Lynchburg comes into the game on a five-game skid, hoping to snap it on the start of the new month.

Last time out, junior forward Bree Spainhour notched a career-high 24 points despite the squad falling to Roanoke, 73-61. The King, N.C. native grabbed a team-best seven boards and blocked one shot in the affair. Backcourt pair Olivia Harris, a senior, and Freshman Audra Petty tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Paige Breuer scored a team-leading 22 points and made nine-of-nine from the foul line for the Maroons.

The past three competitions between these two squads have gone Guilford's way, most recently on Feb. 10, 2024 with a final score of 90-61. Prior to the three-game losing streak, Lynchburg won five of six meetings against the Quakers. The last win for Lynchburg was on Jan. 29, 2022, edging out Guilford 71-70. Since 1995, the Hornets trail in the series, 33-16.

Spainhour and Harris are the two Lynchburg performers that average double-figure scoring with 11.5 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. Harris leads the team in assists with 43 for an average of 2.5 per outing. Spainhour tops the squad in blocks with 20 while sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn and junior guard Brooke Cason are tied for the most steals on the team with 25 steals apiece this season.

For the Quakers, sophomore guard Zoe Bayer paces the squad offensively with 14.1 points per game, the fifth-highest mark in the conference. Senior forward Courtney McMillan is the other Guilford performer averaging double-digit scoring with 12.4 points per affair, which is tied for seventh-best in the ODAC. As a team, the Quakers lead the conference in scoring with an average of 72.3 points per game.

Following tomorrow's contest, the Hornets will return home to take on Averett on Wednesday, February 5 at 5 p.m.
