Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set to return to ODAC action when it takes on Ferrum in Ferrum, Va. on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Hornets (5-5, 2-1) had a brief break in the schedule following their participation in the Music City Classic, where they split games against Franklin & Marshall and Webster. Following a loss to the Diplomats, Lynchburg claimed a 68-55 victory over the Gorloks. In the win, senior guard
Olivia Harris tied her career-high in points and earned her second double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman guardÂ
Audra Petty was close behind with a collegiate-best 19 points while tallying six boards, two assists, and one steal.
Since 1995, Lynchburg owns a 15-13 record in the series against Ferrum. The Hornets won 10 straight meetings with the Panthers from 2014-2023 before having their streak snapped in the ODAC postseason. The last matchup between the programs resulted in a narrow 67-64 win for Ferrum on Feb. 7, 2024, who outscored Lynchburg by a margin of 18-9 in the fourth quarter.Â
So far this season, three Hornet performers have averaged double-figure scoring: Harris (11.7 points per game), junior forward
Bree Spainhour (11.4 ppg.) and sophomore guard
Kate Littlejohn (10.8 ppg.).
Lynchburg has found much success beyond the arc this season, leading the ODAC in 3-pointers made per game (7.5 per game) and opponent 3-point percentage (.216 percent). The Hornets also have the second-best team 3-point percentage in the ODAC at .304 percent. Freshman guard
Audra Petty is the most significant contributor to Lynchburg's long-range success as she tops the conference in 3-point percentage, having made 22-of-45 (.489 percent) 3-point shots.
Although Ferrum is the lowest scoring offense in the ODAC with 54.5 points per game, the Panthers have the second best scoring defense in the conference, averaging 50.1 opponent points per game. Graduate guard Aisha Martin paces the Panther offense with 12.5 points per game. Junior forward Allyson Cassell is the other Ferrum performer avergaing double-digit scoring with 11.9 ppg.
