Hornets Defeat Randolph-Macon and Remain Unblemished in ODAC Play

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team continued its strong conference run with a decisive 3-0 shutout over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday night at Shellenberger Field.

The Hornets (10-3) dominated all facets of the game, outshooting the Yellow Jackets 30-2 and earning 20 penalty corners in the win.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle. Lynchburg controlled the pace of play and dominated possession, but an excellent outing from Yellow Jackets goalkeeper, Valentina Ambrogi-Torres, kept the contest knotcted at 0 at the break.

Lynchburg broke through in the third quarter, stacking up 12 shots in the frame. Saar Prins stuck first as she netted the opening goal in the 34th minute. Just six minutes later, Allie Freeman doubled the lead with a deflection from the far post, giving the Hornets a comfortable cushion heading into the final quarter.

The offense kept rolling in the third quarter as Hannah Christenbury added the final goal, and her first as a Hornet, off an assist from Anna Dorrestijn to seal the victory.

Defensively, Lynchburg was stout, allowing just two total shots and none on target.

With the win, the Hornets extend their conference unbeaten streak and remain unblemished on their home turf. Lynchburg remains at home for their next matchup on Saturday, Oct. 18, against Bridgewater (6-6) on homecoming.
