Lynchburg, Va. — The University of Lynchburg field hockey team continued its dominant run through ODAC play with a commanding 7–1 victory over Bridgewater on Saturday morning at Shellenberger Field.
Senior forward Maddie Schuchter led the offensive outburst, tallying a career-high four goals to power the Hornets to their fourth consecutive conference win.
Bridgewater struck first just five minutes into the contest, but Lynchburg quickly took control of the match and never looked back. Hannah Christenbury equalized less than five minutes later off an assist from Anna Dorrestijn, and Schuchter gave the Hornets the lead shortly after with her first goal of the day.
Lynchburg kept the pressure on in the second quarter as Aurora Balsamo extended the lead to 3–1 before halftime. The Hornets' relentless attack produced four more goals in the second half, including strikes from Callie Short and three more from Schuchter, sealing the 7–1 win.
The Hornets outshot the Eagles 22–2, with 17 shots on target, and earned 12 penalty corners to Bridgewater's two, controlling possession throughout the match.
With the victory, Lynchburg improves to 11–3 overall and 4–0 in ODAC play, while Bridgewater falls to 6–7 (3–2 ODAC).
Lynchburg will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, with a road matchup against Virginia Wesleyan.
