Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team earned a strong 7-3 victory over Bridgewater College on Friday afternoon at the Lynchburg Equestrian Center. Competing on their home grounds, the Hornets put together consistent rides across both Fences and Flat to secure the win.
In Fences, Lynchburg riders tallied three points behind impressive showings from
Mary Katherine Ragsdale,
Rebecca Collier, and Mackenna Moss. Ragsdale and Collier each posted event-high scores of 85 aboard Archie and Eragon, respectively, while Moss earned an 81 on Cascade. Collier was also award the MOP for fences. Their rides helped Lynchburg to a narrow 3-2 edge in the event.
Madeline Rubin and
Amaya Bellfield added scores of 82 and 79 riding Motaz and Zehn.
The Hornets carried that momentum into Flat, where they posted four more points to close out the meet.
Abigail Devlin led the way with an 88 on Caleb, edging her Bridgewater opponent Willow Wright by two points and earning MOP.
Kristin Palmer also impressed with an exhibition-high 88 on Luca, while teammates
Rebecca Collier (85 on Eragon),
Amaya Bellfield (83 on Ollie), and Abigail Zemp (81 on Van Gogh) each contributed to the scoring effort.
Overall, Lynchburg totaled 817 points to Bridgewater's 787. The Hornets' balanced effort and depth across the lineup proved key, as consistent rides from top to bottom highlighted the team's composure and precision.
Lynchburg will look to build on the win as the season continues, next matching up against ODAC rival Sweet Briar at home on Friday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m.Â
