Hornets Win Fifth Straight Over Marlins

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Lynchburg Hornets captured their fifth consecutive win tonight, Oct. 22, with a commanding victory at Virginia Wesleyan, 7-0.

The Hornets (12-3) remain perfect in ODAC play thus far, with their winning streak beginning in the conference opener against Sweet Briar on Oct. 8. Over Lynchburg's recent winning streak, the team has outscored opponents 32-2.

Maddie Schuchter  led the way offensively for Lynchburg for the second straight game. After notching a career-high four goals in Lynchburg's previous contest, Schuchter  tallied a team-best two goals and five points in the victory.

Three Lynchburg forwards, Schuchter , Anna Dorrestijn, and Danielle Coon, are all currently tied for second in the conference for goals with 10 each.

Junior midfielder Allie Freeman scored the opening goal of the affair, notching her fourth goal of the season within the opening two minutes.

After taking a 2-0 lead to the intermission, the Hornets added to their advantage with an explosive third frame. Lynchburg fired off a total of 14 shots in 15 minutes, ultimately leading to a barrage of goals.

After Schucter tabbed her second of the contest to extend the lead to three, roughly a minute later she recorded an assist on a goal for senior forward Coon. Three and a half minutes later, Dorrestijn made her first mark of the night in the score column off a feed from Fenna den Bieman. One minute later, den Bieman capitalized on a chance off a feed from Freeman.

Hannah Christenbury closed out the matchup with the sole goal of the final quarter, marking the third straight game with a goal for the freshman forward.

Lynchburg will play their final road contest of the regular season this Saturday, Oct. 25, in Lexington against No. 24 Washington and Lee (10-4).
