LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Junior forward Anna Dorresteijn recorded her second hat trick of the season and posted eight total points, guiding Lynchburg to an emphatic 8-0 victory over Roanoke on Wednesday night.
Lynchburg (13-4, 6-1 ODAC) was relentless in the attack, outshooting the Maroons (5-11, 3-4 ODAC) 33-1 and earning 13 penalty corners. The Hornets posted their second-highest shot total of the year while tying their season-best mark for the fewest shots allowed (0).
After a scoreless first quarter, the Hornets sparked late in the second. Olivia Muir broke the deadlock just under five minutes into the period, finishing a setup from Allie Freeman off a penalty corner for her first of the night. Less than two minutes later, Dorresteijn doubled the lead. Before the break, Freeman found Hannah Christenbury in prime position to strike, sending Lynchburg into halftime with all the momentum.
The Hornets kept rolling out of the locker room. Saar Prins struck inside the opening minute of the third quarter on a feed from Dorresteijn, followed shortly by a goal from Aurora Balsamo. Dorresteijn and Prins then connected again to stretch the advantage to 6-0.
Dorresteijn capped her dominant outing in the fourth, adding two more goals to complete the hat trick and balloon the lead to eight. With one game remaining, she leads the conference in total points (39), with 13 goals and 13 assists.
Lynchburg wraps up its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 1, hosting Eastern Mennonite (0-16, 0-7 ODAC) for Senior Day at Shellenberger Field.
