LYNCHBURG, Va. --Â The Lynchburg Hornets stormed past Eastern Mennonite in their Senior Day season finale, rolling to a 17-0 victory.
The Hornets (14-4, 8-0 ODAC) opened the afternoon in dominant fashion, striking for eight goals in the first quarter alone. Lynchburg continued to apply relentless pressure, adding three goals in each of the remaining three periods. The Hornets put on an offensive clinic, outshooting EMU (0-17, 0-8 ODAC) 40-0 and finishing with 11 different goal scorers and 13 players recording at least one point.
Junior forward Anna Dorrestijn posted a career-high five goals, tying for the second-most goals in a single game in program history, and matching the fifth-highest single-game point total. Dorrestijn closes the regular season as the ODAC leader in both goals and points while ranking second in assists. The Netherlands native also moves into a tie for the seventh-most assists in a single season with 13.
Junior midfielder Allie Freeman notched a career-best three assists, tying for the seventh-most in a single contest. She finishes the regular season with the third-most assists in the ODAC.
As a team, Lynchburg recorded the second-most points (42) and second-most goals (17) in a single game in program history. This season, the Hornets have already secured the fourth-most goals in a single campaign with 93.
With the victory, Lynchburg clinches the ODAC regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in the postseason, owning a decisive goal-differential tiebreaker after outscoring league opponents 58-4. The Hornets earn a first-round bye and will host a semifinal matchup on Nov. 6 against the winner of Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater.
