Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team claimed the inaugural Beard Cup with a dominant 13-0 victory over the Sweet Briar Vixens.
The Hornets (8-3) scored 13 total goals, tying for the 10th-most in a single game in program history, most recently achieved last season against Sweet Briar (Oct. 26, 2024).
Four Hornets recorded a pair of goals in the match: Danielle Coon, Maddie Schuchter, Aurora Balsamo, and Tatum Humphries. In addition, Saar Prins, Allie Freeman, Anna Dorrestijn, Megan Mitchell, and Callie Short each added one.
Freeman and Dorrestijn both finished with three assists apiece, tying for the eighth-most in a single game in program history. Schuchter also chipped in one assist, bringing Lynchburg's total to seven on the night.
The Hornets dominated possession throughout, outshooting the Vixens 38-1 and putting 68% of their shots on target.
Lynchburg remains on the road, traveling to Winchester to face No. 15 Shenandoah (9-2) on Saturday, Oct. 11.
