FOREST, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey team earned eight All-ODAC honors for the 2025 season, highlighted by junior forward
Anna Dorrestijn's ODAC Offensive Player of the Year award and head coach
Jenni Releford's first ODAC Coach of the Year honor, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
It marks the ninth time in program history that Lynchburg has claimed both major awards in the same season.
In just her second year at the helm, Releford guided the Hornets to a 16-win campaign, including a perfect 10-0 mark at home, and captured her first ODAC championship.
Dorrestijn enters the NCAA Tournament as the ODAC leader in shots on goal (56), goals (21), and points (56). She also finished second in the conference with 14 assists. The Netherlands native tallied four hat tricks this season — two of which came in the opening half — and set a career-high with five goals on Senior Day against Eastern Mennonite, tying the second-most goals scored in a single game in program history. Dorrestijn earned three Offensive Player of the Week Awards throughout the course of the season
Lynchburg placed four student-athletes on the All-ODAC First Team: Danielle Coon, Khanyisile Mzizi, Allie Freeman, and Anna Dorrestijn.
Coon picked up her first All-ODAC honor after ranking second on the team in both goals (13) and points (32), finishing inside the conference's top five in each category. Freeman recorded 13 assists — third-most in the ODAC — along with five goals, including seven assists over the final four games of the season. Mzizi earned her third straight All-ODAC First Team selection, anchoring the midfield with lockdown defense while adding four assists and two goals.
Four more Hornets were named to the All-ODAC Second Team: Maddie Schuchter, Aurora Balsamo, Saar Prins, and Olivia Muir.
Schuchter secured her second All-ODAC accolade after scoring 12 goals and adding six assists as a sophomore, including back-to-back hat tricks in mid-October and a career-best four goals against Bridgewater. Balsamo moved up from her Third Team selection a year ago with a seven-goal, four-assist season, tallying four contributions in the final four games. Prins earned her first All-ODAC nod in her senior campaign, totaling 11 goals and one assist. Muir returned to the Second Team for the second straight year, earning her third All-Conference honor overall. The senior defender anchored a back line that posted eight shutouts and allowed just 0.95 goals per game.
