Hornets Finish Jean Edge Classic With Win Over NC Wesleyan

Rocky Mount, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball earned its third straight win of the season with a strong road performance, pulling away in the second half to earn a 65-50 victory at NC Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.

After a tightly contested first half that saw the teams enter the break with Hornets (3-0) leading 32-29, they surged in the third quarter to take control of the game. Taylor Brown anchored Lynchburg's effort with an efficient 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting while adding 12 rebounds for a double-double. Her work on the offensive glass proved especially valuable, helping the Hornets generate 17 second-chance points.

Ashley Vandergrift added nine points and six rebounds, while Kate Littlejohn contributed a well-rounded 10-point performance that included six assists, four steals, and a perfect 6-for-7 mark at the free-throw line. Lynchburg's defense made the difference after halftime, holding N.C. Wesleyan to just seven points in the third quarter and forcing 25 turnovers overall. The Hornets turned those miscues into 21 points and ran effectively in transition, outscoring the Bishops 23-8 in fast-break opportunities.

Audra Petty delivered 12 points off the bench, knocking down key shots throughout the middle quarters, and Brooke Cason added three points while collecting four rebounds and three assists. Caitlin Canada provided strong minutes inside, scoring five points and securing four boards. Lynchburg's depth showed with 25 total bench points compared to just seven for N.C. Wesleyan.

Dorinda Jordan led the hosts with 16 points and 19 rebounds, but Lynchburg's balanced scoring and steady defensive pressure proved too much down the stretch. The Hornets' largest lead came late in the third quarter at 18 points, a cushion they maintained throughout the final period.

Lynchburg will ride its three-game win streak into a home bout against William Peace on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.
