NDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history!
The Hornets (26–4) earned one of the 21 at-large bids after setting a multitude of program records, highlighted by the best regular-season win percentage in school history and tying the program mark for most wins in a single season.
Lynchburg will play its first-ever NCAA Tournament match against William Smith (23–7) this weekend in Baltimore, Md. on the campus of Johns Hopkins. Regionals, encompassing the rounds of 64, 32, and 16, will be hosted at campus sites before the championship bracket shifts to Shirk Center Arena in Bloomington, Ill. Those rounds will run Thursday–Saturday, Nov. 20–22.
"I am incredibly excited, not only for our program and the athletic department, but also for the University of Lynchburg. It's an incredible honor to lead this program to its first ever NCAA Tournament berth. I can't wait to get back into the gym with our incredible student-athletes and compete this week," said Director of Women's Volleyball Kevin Cardoza.
Three ODAC schools earned bids to this year's tournament. Washington & Lee secured the league's automatic berth with its conference title, while Virginia Wesleyan joins Lynchburg as an at-large selection. The Generals will also compete in the portion of the bracket hosted by Virginia Wesleyan.
