LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Lynchburg women's volleyball program picked up two major AVCA All-Region honors today,
Kevin Cardoza receiving the Region IV Coach of the Year along with
Kate Hardie Reciving an Honorable Mention.
Hardie is the first Lynchburg Hornet to receive an AVCA All-Region nod since Jen Garrett in 2016. The graduate right side hitter earned the second All-Region selection in program history with a stellar first year in the Hill City that also included an All-ODAC First Team selection.
The Rustburg, Va., native finished third in the conference in both total kills (334) and kills per set (3.09), and also placed inside the top 15 in hitting percentage at .260. The Mercer beach volleyball transfer added 54 service aces and 412.5 total points on the season, ranking third in the league in both categories.
Head coach Kevin Cardoza was recognized as the AVCA Region VI Coach of the Year, marking the first time in program history that a Lynchburg coach has earned the honor.
In his first two years with the Hornets, Cardoza has tallied an overall record of 45-16 (73.77%). These awards cap a historic season for the Hornets, adding to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth and a record-setting 26-4 campaign.
