Jordan Garners ODAC Runner of the Year Honors

Forest, Va. – Sophomore Alex Jordan received Old Dominion Athletic Conference Runner of the Year honors in the conference's postseason awards announcement on Tuesday, marking the sixth consecutive season that an athlete for the Lynchburg men's cross country team earned the award.

2025 marks the 20th season that a Hornet has captured the award on the men's side, equating to 40% of the ODAC Runner of the Year accolades since the league's inception in 1976. This year's award marks the first time in men's ODAC history that the ODAC Runner of the Year honors were given to someone who did not claim the ODAC title.

Jordan is the youngest athlete to receive the award since Lynchburg's Max Sparks raced to Runner of the Year accolades during his sophomore season in 2019.

At the NCAA South Region Championships, Jordan punctuated his dominant sophomore campaign with a 24:15.2 personal best in the 8k to clinch the individual title. The Lynchburg, Va. native shed 17 seconds from his previous PR, posted at the Paul Short Run in early October.

To begin the postseason, Jordan finished third at the ODAC Cross Country Championships with a 25:45.2 performance at Bridgewater College, propelling the Hornets to a second-place team finish behind Washington & Lee. Since Friday, Oct. 3, Jordan registered three top-ten finishes ahead of the NCAA Championships.

Jordan graduated from nearby Jefferson Forest High School, where he emerged as an elite recruiting prospect with participation at the New Balance National Championships during the track & field season. Not missing a beat in his first collegiate cross country season, Jordan raced to ODAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2024 with an eighth-place finish at the ODAC Championships.

The Lynchburg men's team will compete in Spartanburg, S.C. at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11:00 a.m.
