Rustburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team remains unbeaten in NCEA action with today's 7-3 victory over Sweet Briar for the team's Code Red on Friday afternoon at the Lynchburg Equestrian Facility.
The nationally top-ranked Hornets improved to five wins on the season with today's triumph. Lynchburg swept the MOP awards as well, with
Amaya Bellfield earning the recognition in fences and
Abigail Devlin claiming the award in flat. Both riders earned scores of 88.5 in their respective events, Bellfield while riding Zehn and Devlin riding Ollie.
Sweet Briar took the early lead in fences by claiming the first two team points, but Lynchburg struck back by taking the following three to own a 3-2 lead heading into flat. The Hornets secured a commanding 4-1 margin, including the first three team points, and sealed the victory.
In fences,
Mary Katherine Ragsdale impressed with a score of 84.5 riding Motaz, while
Rebecca Collier shined by receiving a score of 83 riding Itina. Both earned team points for the squad. Though she was edged by one point,
Madeline Rubin had a stellar showing on Archie with a score of 84.
Bellfield followed up her MOP performance in fences with a score of 83 in flat riding Caleb.
Devyn Borden was close behind with a score of 82 riding Balou, while Collier and
Abby Zemp earned scored of 72 and 71 riding Van Gogh and Eragon, respectively.
While the IHSA group competes this weekend at the Virginia Tech IHSA in Blacksburg, Va., the NCEA crew gears up for a home meet against Sewanee this coming Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. To view the complete results from today's meet,
