GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team came up short in a second-half rally against Denison, falling 83-74 on the road against the Big Red.
Sophomore forward Jamarcus Brown led the Hornets (6-4) in scoring with 20 points and added a team-best 11 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the season. Senior guard Piercen Young turned in a season-best performance, pouring in 19 points on an efficient night from beyond the arc, knocking down three triples on four attempts.
After a competitive opening 16 minutes of the first half, Denison (6-2) seized control with an 11-1 run, creating separation and carrying the momentum into the locker room.
Lynchburg continued to battle throughout the second half, stringing together multiple spurts of momentum to stay within striking distance. Each time the Hornets were able to cut the deficit to a one-possession game, however, the Big Red answered with timely baskets. After six ties and five lead changes in the opening half, Denison gained firm control and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
With under two minutes remaining, Lynchburg mounted one final surge, trailing by 10. An 8-2 run in less than a minute pulled the Hornets back within four, putting the pressure squarely on the Big Red. Lynchburg elected not to foul, instead trusting its defense to generate a crucial stop.
The Hornets nearly did just that, forcing a contested shot that missed everything from the short corner. The loose ball, however, found its way back to the elbow and into the hands of Denison's leading scorer, Ellis Appiah. As the shot clock expired, Appiah quickly put up another attempt that found the bottom of the net, pushing the lead back to six with just under 30 seconds remaining and sealing the outcome.
Lynchburg now returns home to host Greensboro in the Wayne Profit Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 17, in its final non-conference regular-season game of 2025.
