LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's basketball team collected its fourth win in five games with an assertive 81–53 victory over the Randolph Wildcats in its first ODAC matchup of the year.
Jamarcus Brown led the way for the Hornets (5–3) with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting, adding eight rebounds, three blocks, and two assists. Derek Ross JR contributed 14 points on an efficient 5-of-6 outing from the field and tied for the team lead with three assists.
Through the opening 14 minutes, the contest swayed back and forth with six ties and six lead changes. However, the Lynchburg defense eventually found its stride and completely disrupted the Wildcat offensive rhythm. The Hornets held Randolph scoreless over the final three minutes of the half to take an eight-point advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, Lynchburg found another gear and put together a clinic on both ends of the floor. Over the first 11:50 after the break, the Hornets held Randolph to just one made field goal. Lynchburg forced 18 turnovers—eight coming via steals—and rejected six shot attempts. The defensive dominance fueled the offense, resulting in 20 points off turnovers and 24 fast-break points.
At the same time, the Hornets heated up from the perimeter. Jayson Easton sparked the run with two threes in less than 30 seconds, helping Lynchburg knock down seven triples on 15 attempts in the second half. The Hornets also took exceptional care of the ball, committing just one turnover in the first 17 minutes after halftime. They finished with eight turnovers total—their second-lowest mark of the season.
Thirteen different Hornets recorded at least one field goal attempt, as the team posted its highest three-point percentage of the season (33.3%) and secured a season-best 39 defensive rebounds.
Lynchburg continues ODAC play on Saturday, Dec. 6, as the Hornets welcome the Bridgewater Eagles to Turner Gymnasium.
