Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's basketball team delivered a commanding all-around performance Saturday afternoon in Turner Gym, defeating ODAC rival Bridgewater, 94-70.
The Hornets controlled the game from the opening tip, never trailing and building a 49-29 halftime advantage behind efficient scoring and relentless defensive pressure.
Jayson Easton set the tone with a team-high 24 points on seven-for-13 shooting, including four made threes and a perfect six-of-six from the foul line. He added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals while finishing a plus-27 on the floor.
The home squad's balance was evident throughout, as four players reached double figures.
Jamarcus Brown posted a strong versatile effort with 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and one block.
Piercen Young added 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, while
Jesse Mitchell chipped in 15 points, including three makes from beyond the arc.
Lynchburg shot .470 percent from the field, the second-highest shooting percentage in a game this season, and connected on 12 three-pointers, while also converting 20-of-24 free throws, both season-high marks. The Hornets dominated the glass 42-31 and scored 32 points in the paint with 17 second-chance points. Their defensive intensity created nine steals and helped turn 14 Bridgewater turnovers into 15 Hornet points.
The Eagles were highlighted offensively by Kyren Smith with 14 points and Jahmir Brown with 12 points. Lynchburg's largest lead of the afternoon came at the 2:59 mark of the second half, when the advantage grew to 29. The Hornets controlled nearly 40 minutes of game time, using a 12-point scoring run midway through the first half to take a double-digit lead, which never dropped below double figures for the remainder of the contest.
The Hornets have a seven-day break before returning to competition against Denison in Granville, Ohio on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.
