Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set to square off against Hill City rival Randolph for the second time this season on Tuesday, February 18 at 7 p.m.
The Hornets (8-14, 5-10) return to Turner Gymnasium after finishing their final road game of the regular season against Eastern Mennonite this past Saturday. Although Lynchburg lost that affair, senior guard
Olivia Harris tallied a career-best 25 points to surpass 1,000 points in her collegiate career. She also netted three 3-pointers to total 154 in her four collegiate seasons and snap the program record for most 3-point field goals made in a career.Â
Tomorrow's competition against Randolph will be the final conference matchup of the regular season. Earlier this season, the Hornets fell to the Wildcats, 62-59, on January 22. Randolph scored seven straight in the final 2:35 of that outing to take the lead and secure the win. Graduate guard Kylie Stark led all scorers with 19 points.
Since 1998, Lynchburg owns a 28-7 advantage in the series with Randolph. The last two meetings on the hardwood between these squads resulted in Wildcat victories. The last win for the Hornets was on Feb. 1, 2023 in the form of a 55-51 finish.Â
Harris leads Lynchburg offensively with 12.2 points per game this season and 51 total assists. Junior forward
Bree Spainhour (11.3 points per game) and sophomore guard
Kate Littlejohn (10.4 ppg.) are also averaging double-figure scoring this season. As a team, the Hornets average 6.7 3-pointers per affair, the second-best mark in the ODAC this season, while shooting from beyond the arc at a .283-percent clip, which ranks third in the conference.
Stark is the top scorer for the Wildcats this season, averaging the fourth-most points in the ODAC this season with 15.6 per game. Senior forward Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson also averages double-digit points with 10.3 per contest. The Randolph squad has the best 3-point percentage in the conference this season, making .290 percent from long range. The Wildcats defend the 3-point line well, allowing the third lowest 3-point percentage to opponents (.244 percent).
Following tomorrow's outing, the Hornets will close out the regular season against Mary Washington and celebrate the team's senior day on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m.
