Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team is set for its final regular-season contest of the 2024-25 season when it welcomes Mary Washington to Turner Gymnasium for the squad's senior day on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. The graduating student-athletes that will be honored on Saturday will be:
Olivia Harris,
Darcy Ross,
Macey Mullins, and
McKenzie Brundage.
The Hornets (9-14, 6-10) concluded regular-season conference competition with a 76-57 victory against crosstown rival Randolph this past Tuesday. In that matchup, Lynchburg buried a program-record 16 3-pointers while holding the WildCats to just five-of-29 (.172 percent) from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard
Kate Littlejohn cashed five-of-eight (.625 percent) from 3-point range en rout to a career-best 18-point performance.
Lynchburg has hit the hardwood against Mary Washington seven times since 2015. Tomorrow's affair will be the third time in three years the two programs have squared off. Each of the last four outings have gone the Eagles' way, most recently with an 83-36 final on Jan. 5, 2024. The last victory for the Hornets was a 54-49 finish on Nov. 21, 2017.Â
UMW comes into tomorrow's game with an overall record of 9-15. Senior guard Megan Baxter is the top offensive producer for the Eagles with 8.1 points per game and 68 assists on the season. Mary Washington is strongest on the defensive side, forcing 20.75 opponent turnovers per game and holding foes to an average of 56.1 points per outing.Â
The most productive offensive performer for Lynchburg has been senior guard
Olivia Harris, who averages 12.2 points per affair - which ranks 10th in the ODAC - and has dished out 53 assists this season. Harris recently surpassed 1,000 career points and is now has the 10th-most career points in program history. Junior forward
Bree Spainhour averages 11.4 points per game and grabs a team-high 6.5 rebounds per contest. Littlejohn also averages double-figures with 10.7 points per game.
As previously mentioned, this is the final outing of the 2024-25 regular season for the Hornets. The ODAC postseason begins on Tuesday, February 25 with the quarterfinal round.Â
