Women's Hoops Earns Senior Day Win In Regular Season Finale

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team honored its graduating class with a hard-fought victory on the squad's senior day against Mary Washington, 58-52, on Saturday afternoon in Turner Gymnasium.

The Hornets (10-14, 6-10) closed out the regular season with a triumph to reach double-digits in the win column. Senior guard Olivia Harris paced the team offensively with 19 points while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out five assists. Senior forward Darcy Ross played 24 minutes and tallied nine points, four rebounds and two steals. Junior guard Macey Mullins swiped four steals and grabbed four boards.

Following the first whistle, Lynchburg put the first six points on the board after buckets from Ross, Mullins and junior forward Bree Spainhour. The Hornets did not trail for the entirety of the contest. The score was even at 13-13 in the first quarter before Harris drained a three in the ending seconds of the first period.

Lynchburg held onto the advantage for the remainder of the affair, owning a 28-19 edge heading into the halftime intermission. After the break, the Hornets' lead swung between seven and 11 for the whole third quarter. The Eagles scored six consecutive points in the final 2:26 of the matchup, but Lynchburg held onto the advantage and finished with a victory.

Mary Washington had three performers score in double-figures: Leila Carter (16 points), Breana Valentine (14 points) and Megan Baxter (10 points). Valentine grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to complete a double-double. As a team, the Eagles were held to two-of-19 (.105 percent) from 3-point range.

That concludes the 2024-25 campaign for the women's basketball team. Stay tuned with Lynchburg sports online and on social media to stay up to date on any new information regarding the women's basketball program.
