Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's volleyball dropped both games in Harrisonburg this afternoon, 3-0 against EMU and 3-2 vs. Regent.
The Hornets got their Saturday started against the EMU Royals in a conference contest. In the first frame, EMU would quickly jump out to a six-point lead. However, the Hornets quickly stormed back. Nevertheless, moments before they could even the score, EMU went on a 7-0 run. Despite a late rally, the Royals sealed a 25-17 victory.
In the second set, it was a 12-1 run by EMU that created separation once again towards the midway point. The lead would be too much for the Hornets to overcome and EMU would go on to claim the 25-17 win once against.
In the third frame,
Nick Redding began to catch fire. The right-side hitter went on to lead the team in kills in this contest, finishing with 7. Despite his efforts, the Royals wrapped up the match with another long run, 7-1, to seize all the momentum and capture the sweep.
The Hornets then stayed on the floor for their next opponent, Regent. In the first frame, the Hornets showed no signs of heavy legs, bulldozing Regent 25-13. But the Regent Royals quickly responded, taking the second set 25-17.
The two sides would trade sets once again in the third and fourth frames, setting up the Hornets for their first five-set match. In the final frame, Lynchburg began trailing 7-3. From that point on the Hornets would trade points one for two, and Regent would coast to a five-set win, 15-9.
Both Redding and
Jeremiah Costello finished this affair with double-digit kills, 12 and 11 respectively.
Stefan Kapitanov led the team with four blocks as well.
Lynchburg will travel to Ashland for their next match, taking on Randolph-Macon, next Tuesday, Feb. 11.
