Lynchburg Falls To No. 21 Washington & Lee

Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team dropped its second matchup of the season against Washington and Lee, 91-27, on Saturday evening in Holekamp Gym.

The Hornets (7-13, 4-9) had backcourt pair Kate Littlejohn and Olivia Harris score 15 and 13 points, respectively, and were the two Lynchburg performers that scored in double-figures. Junior forward Bree Spainhour tallied nine points, grabbed five boards and added one block and steal. Although the Hornets did not have their best performance from the field, they made 14-of-18 (.778 percent) from the foul line, the eighth time this season making 10-or-more free throws.

After the opening whistle, the Generals jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of action. They grabbed the advantage and did not trail for the remainder of the contest. Following the first 10 minutes, Washington and Lee was ahead 31-12 and held onto a double-digit lead for the rest of the outing.

Junior forward Mary Schleusner tallied a game-high 30 points, two shy of her season-high, and grabbed 17 boards. She has scored 30-or-more points on three occasions this season and averages 20.1 points per affair. She also averages 18.3 rebounds per game, which is the best mark in NCAA DIII this season.

Next up for the Hornets is a significant Code Red matchup in Turner Gymnasium against Virginia Wesleyan on Wenesday, February 12 at 7 p.m.
