Lynchburg, Va. -- On home-opening weekend, the University of Lynchburg baseball squad notched three wins over York to sweep the series this weekend on James C. Fox Field.
In the opening game after a scoreless first two innings, the Hornets broke through in the bottom of the third with a five-run explosion. Lynchburg continued to tack on runs, adding one in the fourth, four in the seventh, and running up to 17 by the end of the eighth. In that contest, four Hornet performers walked away with multi-hit games: Sean Pokorak paced the team with three hits while Gavin Collins, Brandon Garcia and Logan Webster each had two.
Collins knocked one home in the seventh, effectively scoring three runs. Benton Jones doubled for the first scores of the eighth inning that score Garcia and Webster. Lynchburg's pitching staff held strong as well, with Tyler Kaltreider leading the way. He threw seven innings and struck out 11 batters of 25 faced, allowing just three hits while on the mound. The rest of the crew allowed just one hit for the remainder of the outing.
Game two was as thrilling a competition as one can be, but Lynchburg pulled through with a 6-5 victory with two scores in the final inning. York took a three-run lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Ryder Warren scored Conner Moore in for the Hornets' only run in the fourth. Munitz's two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth tied the game, and a sacrifice fly from C. Moore gave Lynchburg their first lead, 4-3.
The Spartans scored one run apiece in the seventh and eighth innings, grabbing a 5-4 edge heading into the final frame. Parker Cato started off with a single to the shortstop, followed by another hit by Webster to put runners on first and second. Garcia loaded the bases with a bunt to third, making way for Muntiz to hit home Webster and Cato to seal the second victory of the day.

York responded in the sixth with a walk that brought in a run. Lynchburg regained the advantage in the sixth as Pokorak doubled to score Jones. In the seventh, Munitz singled to drive in Webster, followed by a wild pitch that allowed Garcia to score. Cato added the final run in the eighth with by stealing home to seal the 5-1 win.
