Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team returns home this weekend for a double header against ODAC foe Guilford on Saturday, March 22, starting at noon.
The No. 3 Hornets (15-3, 4-1) had a three-game win streak snapped earlier this week in a narrow loss to Hampden-Sydney, 3-1. Lynchburg took the lead right away with a homer from
Brandon Garcia, the Tigers answered back in the first with one score and finished with a run each in the seventh and eighth.
Since 1996, Lynchburg owns a 35-20 advantage in the series against Guilford (12-4, 2-3). Although the Hornets dropped the last matchup to the Quakers, 10-5, Lynchburg had won the previous 10 consecutive contests. The last meeting between these two teams was a split double header on April 27, 2024.
Rylan Smith leads Guilford at the plate with a .500 batting average and an OPS of 1.396. He has 31 hits on the year in 62 at bats, including 14 doubles. He has scored 21 runs and has totaled 25 RBI. Skyler Dark leads the team in runs scored with 26. He also has 27 hits in 71 at bats and has totaled 11 RBI.
The Hornets have
Benton Jones leading them at the plate with an average of .370 and an OPS of 1.201. He's knocked home two times this season, has scored 21 runs and has totaled 14 RBI. On the mound,
Tyler Kaltreider has had a fantastic season thus far with an ERA of 0.51 and a WHIP of .57. He boasts an unbeaten record of 4-0 and has pitched a total of 35.0 innings.
Following tomorrow's affair, the Hornets will host Randolph-Macon on Tuesday, March 25 at 3 p.m.
