Men's and Women's Tennis Face ODAC Foes Over the Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Virginia Beach, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team dropped their first division III match of the season against Virginia Wesleyan 0-7 Saturday afternoon. 

The Hornets conceded the doubles point by dropping all three matches with a score of 3-6. Freshmen Timothee Depaquit and Luca Morbioli fell at No. 1 doubles to the Marlins' Madanyan and Muller. Sophomore Sebastian Soria and junior Alex Rintoul dropped their match at the second flight against Carlos and Rafael Rullan. Juniors Sebastian Sierra and Daniel Hardy dropped their match on the bottom court to Challagundla and Vlad.

Morbioli, slotted at the top seed, fell 2-6, 3-6 to Vlad. Soria fell on court two 4-6, 0-6 to Rafael Rullan. Rintoul dropped his match at No. 3 singles against Francis Cabbadu 2-6, 0-6. Sierra, slotted at the fourth seed, dropped his match against Muller with the same score. Depaquit faced Carlos Rullan on court five and dropped both sets 2-6. Junior Jorge Patricio Zepeda fell at the bottom court 4-6, 1-6 to Madanyan.

The Hornets (6-1, 1-1 ODAC) return home to face Guilford in a Code Red matchup on Sunday, Mar. 30 at 3 p.m.

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team defeated the Bridgewater Eagles 6-1 Sunday afternoon.

The Hornets stung the Eagles in doubles play, taking all three matches. Freshmen Kayla Kosiorek and Harper Dodd opened the match with a win at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 victory. Graduate student Maria Caro and junior Ashley Hair breadsticked their opponent at the top court to clinch the doubles point. Senior Elora Grochowski and junior Reese McAtee won their match on court three 6-3 to complete the sweep for the Hornets.

In singles play, Grochowski opened with a 6-0, 2-6 win at the bottom court. Dodd dropped her match on court four 2-6, 1-6. Kosiorek and Caro finished their matches simultaneously, winning with scores of 1-6, 1-6 and 1-6, 2-6, respectively. Hair breadsticked her opponent in both sets at the third flight. McAtee ended the day with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 victory at No. 5 singles.

The Hornets, currently riding a 4-match win streak, improved to 5-1 on the season, their best start since the 2021-2022 season. Lynchburg (5-1, 2-0 ODAC) face Averett on Friday, Mar. 29 at 1:30 p.m.
