Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team is gearing up for an exciting Code Red game on Shellenberger Field against Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m.
The No. 15 Hornets (3-4, 1-0) come into tomorrow's midweek matchup following a dominant 25-3 triumph over Virginia Wesleyan this past weekend. Five different performers tallied three-or-more points in that outing:Â
Charlie Evans,Â
Kolbe Haug,Â
Drew Schmidt,Â
Van Tanguay, and
Jake Rust. Evans, Haug, and Rust each racked up hat tricks in the affair.
Since 1999, Lynchburg owns a 23-9 advantage in the series against Hampden-Sydney. Each of the last eight meetings between the two sides have resulted in victories for the Hornets, most recently with a 14-6 finish on April 20, 2024. In that contest,
Spencer Vandenberg paced the squad with six points on four goals and two assists while
Riley Hastings was closed behind with five points on three goals and two assists.
The Tigers come into tomorrow's competition with a 6-2 overall record, having won their most recent outing against Shenandoah, 11-6, in the team's first conference game of the season. Sophomore attackman Kavin Wood quarterbacks the offense and has a conference-leading 20 assists on the year to go with 11 goals, leading his team in points with 31.
His fellow attack group, Cole Palmer and Broder Conley, are atop the squad in goals with 22 and 21, respectively. As a team, HSC has the second-most efficient man-up unit in the conference, scoring on .516 percent of extra-man opportunities.Â
The Hornets also have a high-powered offense, ranking second in the ODAC in scoring offense and 25th in DIII with 14.71 goals per game. Rust is a significant contributor to that, averaging 2.9 goals per affair, which is the second-most in the conference. Lynchburg shoots at an efficient rate with a .333 shot percentage, the 18th-best in the division and second-best in the ODAC.Â
Battles at the X will be key in tomorrow's matchup. Hampden-Sydney wins 40% of its draws while Lynchburg wins 57.1% of its faceoffs.
Riley Frankel is the main man on the draw for the Hornets. He wins his faceoff attempts at a .597 percent clip (77-129).
Following tomorrow's game, the men's lacrosse team returns to Maryland once again to square off against St. Mary's in St. Mary's City on Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
