Rustburg, Va. --Â The University of Lynchburg equestrian team are your ODAC Head-to-Head Tournament Champions, nipping Sweet Briar by a raw score of 777.5-674.0 on Saturday.
The Hornets are head-to-head conference champions for the second consecutive year. In the two years that the head-to-head style tournament has been in place, Lynchburg has taken the title.
Lucy Metzler highlighted Hornet performers with the MOP award in the flat with a score of 83.5 riding Balou.
After the Hornets trailed in the fences, 3-2, they evened the score by flipping the script in flat and tying the Vixens in team score. Lynchburg outed Sweet Briar by over 100 in the raw score to take the victory.Â
In the Flat, Metzler and
Abby Zemp earned team points with scores of 83.5 and 65.5, respectively.
Fallyn Belcastro,
Devyn Borden and Metzler each tabbed team points in the flat. Belcastro earned a score of 84.5 riding Eddy and Borden earned a score of 78 riding Trey. Metzler and Belcastro snagged spots on the All-Tournament team for flat.
On the evening of Tuesday, April 1, the Lynchburg equestrian team was selected as the number one seed for the NCEA Single-Discipline national tournament. The Hornets are set to take on fourth-seeded Dartmouth in the first round on Friday, April 18.
