Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian claimed two NCEA victories against Berry College and Sewanee, and a first-place finish in the Hollins IHSA this past weekend.
The Hornets started the weekend with a convincing 9-1 win over Berry on Friday, which also served as the NCEA squad's senior day.
Emma Schweizer,
Fallyn Belcastro,
Emmy Dolin, and
Lucy Metzler were all honored as the graduating class for their accomplishments during their time at Lynchburg. Schweizer and Abigail Zemp took home the MOP awards for fences and flat, respectively.
The next day, the NCEA team squared off against Sewanee and secured an 8-2 victory, avenging the loss to the Tigers earlier this season. The Hornets swept the flat event and Schweizer claimed the MOP in the flat.Â
Also on Saturday, the IHSA crew traveled to Roanoke, Va. for the Hollins IHSA. Lynchburg beat out Washington and Lee by one point with drop score to top the leaderboard. The Hornets had five first-place finishes across the classes.
McKenzie Burch highlighted Lynchburg's performance with gold medals in Limit Flat Sec A and Limit Fences Sec A.
Ava Jackson took first in Limit Flat Sec B,
Clair Humphreys earned first in Novice Flat Sec A, and
Sophia Schorr claimed first in the Inroductory class.
Next up for the IHSA team is IHSA Regionals this weekend at home on Saturday, March 15, starting at 10 a.m. The NCEA squad will prepare for the ODAC Head to Head Tournament which will take place from Friday, March 28 through Sunday, March 30.
