Men's Volleyball Falls to Roanoke and SVU

Salem, VA -- The Lynchburg men's volleyball team dropped their two contests at the Cregger Center to Roanoke, 3-1, and Sourthern Virginia, 3-0.

Nick Redding led the team with a game-high 19 kills, tying his second-highest mark of the season, which also came against Roanoke earlier this season. Bryce Jackon tabbed two blocks and two aces. Josh Rohman finished with a season-high 18 assists and Miller Valey recorded 21.

The Hornets began their evening facing a Maroons squad that came out firing. Roanoke started off strong in the early stages of the affair, stringing together a quick 6-1 run to jump out in front. The Hornets struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the opening frame, recording eight errors and four kills. Roanoke went on to win the first frame, 25-15.

Lynchburg hit their stride in the second set, increasing their attacking percentage from -0.2 to .406. Redding and Costello combined for 12 of the 17 Lynchburg kills in the second set. As a group, Lynchburg only recorded four errors in this set on their way to a 25-21 win.

Tied up at one set, the Maroons string together a 6-1 run to begin the frame. From that point on, each side traded runs back and forth. While the Hornets battled to keep the affair competitive, they could not overcome the early deficit and fell 25-20.

Roanoke continued to bunch points together in the fourth set. The Maroons seized momentum towards the midway mark and cruised to a 25-20 win to seal the victory in four sets.

Lynchburg retook the floor for a neutral contest against the top-ranked team in Region III.

The Hornets finished the contest with their penultimate number of kills this season and tied their highest mark for errors in a three-set match. The Knights finished each set with an attacking percentage of .300 or better, highlighted by a .504 mark in the second set. SVU secured the win in a three-set sweep, 25-14, 25-11, 25-15.

Lynchburg returns to the Hill City for a road contest against cross-town rival Randolph (11-15) on Saturday, April 5, to close out its debut season.
