Lynchburg, Va. -- A run of five straight goals in the final period, including a hat trick from junior attackman
Riley Hastings, allowed the University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team to snag a narrow victory over Roanoke, 19-18, on Saturday night at Shellenberger Field.
The No. 13 Hornets (7-4, 4-0) trailed for nearly the entire contest until fifth year midfielder

Jake Rust was the other goal scorer. The Hornets took the lead with Hastings' second goal during the run with 6:36 remaining and never looked back.Â
In the early goings, Roanoke got on the board first just 22 seconds into the outing. After some back-and-forth, the Maroons nailed four straight goals to go ahead, 6-2, with 2:37 left in the opening period. Lynchburg scored the next three goals to cut its deficit to one, 6-5, with 14:51 to go before halftime. Roanoke scored three of the remaining four goals that were scored before the halftime intermission and the sides went into the break with a 9-6 Maroon advantage.
Following some more see-saw action, Lynchburg was able to knot the score at 12 apiece with 5:17 left in the third period following a man-up goal by Rust. Roanoke responded with three quick goals in less than a minute and found themselves with a 15-12 edge with 3:01 left in the third period. The Hornets clawed their way back into the contest and stung the Maroons in the final period.
