Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team won their fifth straight game today, taking down the Averett Cougars 20-8.
The Hornets tabbed 20 goals for the seventh time this season, and fourth time in the last five games.
Junior attack
Sydney Dumas notched a career-high nine points and five assists in the affair.
Neely Morris contributed a team-high five goals, with just six shots, the second time she has reached that mark this season.Â
Lynchburg began the matchup by scoring in a flurry, netting six goals in the opening three minuets. The Hornets went on to score 10 goals in the first 11 minuets of play.Â
The Cougars struggled with clears and draw controls throughout the affair, helping Lynchburg keep possession on their side of the field and momentum with their squad. The Hornets won 20 of the 30 draws on the night along with holding Averett to three successful clears on 12 attempts.Â
While the final three quarters were competitive, the Cougars couldn't overcome the large deficit Lynchburg built in the first frame. The two sides were separated by three goals in the last 45 minuets.Â
Lynchburg now turns to Shenandoah this weekend for an ODAC road game this Saturday, April 12.Â
