Forest, Va. --Â In the first week of the 2026 season, the University of Lynchburg baseball team claimed both the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards, announced by the league office on Monday.
Reigning ODAC Pitcher of the Year and preseason All-American
Tyler Kaltreider earned the ODAC Pitcher of the Week award for his performance in the eight-inning, 10-0 win over George Fox. In the team's season-opener, Kaltreider threw six complete innings and tossed 10 strikeouts. No runs were scored while he was on the mound and he allowed seven hits in 23 batters faced.
Madden had a fantastic start to the 2026 campaign, knocking home two home runs and a triple to help himself earn the ODAC Player of the Week accolade. Through Lynchburg's three games this past weekend, the Burke, Va. native had 13 at bats and totaled six hits, five RBI, and three runs scored. Additionally, he finished the three-game stretch with a perfect fielding percentage on four put outs.
Kaltreider's weekly conference honor is the third of his collegiate career with the Hornets, while Madden earns his first in a Lynchburg uniform. Next on the slate for the Hornets is the D3 Showcase in Greensboro, N.C., where the squad will face top-tier competition in No. 21/13 Cortland, No. 9/5 Salisbury, and Marietta on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21 at First National Bank Field.
