Lynchburg, Va. -- In the preseason DIII baseball national rankings poll, the University of Lynchburg baseball team was selected as the No. 6 team in the country, announced by the D3baseball.com committee this week.
Additionally, the reigning ODAC Pitcher of Year
Tyler Kaltreider was honored as a D3baseball.com Preseason All-American. Last year, Kaltreider was named the ABCA/Rawlings Region 6 Pitcher of the Year and earned ABCA/Rawlings All-American Second Team status. He concluded the year at 13th in DIII in strikeout-to-walk ratio (7.31) and total strikeouts (95). He pitched a 2.68 ERA and was atop the conference in WHIP at 1.05 and walks given per nine innings at 1.20.
The D3baseball.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 media members and sports information directors across the country. This year, the Hornets head into the season as the sixth-best team in the nation, receiving 439 points in the poll and one first-place vote. At the top of the preseason rankings is UW-Whitewater with 598 points and 18 first-place votes. Endicott trails at No. 2 with 577 points and three first-place votes, while Denison rounds out the top three with 528 points.
Last season, Lynchburg finished at No. 10 in the D3baseball.com national poll, ranking inside the top-10 for the entire season. The Hornets ranked as high as No. 2 for two weeks of the season and was within the top five for 11 consecutive weeks.
