No. 1 Equestrian Splits Friday Against Centenary And No. 3 Charleston

Charleston, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team took on a double header against Centenary and Charleston and came away with one win and one loss on Friday at Charleston.

The No. 1 Hornets (7-2) claimed a 5-3 victory against Centenary, but dropped to host No. 3 Charleston, 7-3. Against the Cyclones, just four riders performed in each of the Fences and Flat events. Lynchburg earned three of four points in the Fences and split the Flat, 2-2. Madeline Rubin, Rebecca Collier, and Amaya Bellfield each earned team points in the Fences, while Abby Zemp and Collier claimed team points in the Flat.

Rubin scored an event-high 86 riding Bruno. Collier followed with an 82 riding Athena, and Bellfield scored an 80 riding Mozart. Additionally, Stella Patenaude earned a 75 riding Oliver to round out Lynchburg performers in the Fences. In the Flat, Zemp and Collier scored 87 on Danny and 86 on Zeus, respectively. Abigail Devlin and Bellfield produced solid rides as well as Devlin scored 72 and Bellfield was given a score of 70.

Against the Cougars, the Hornets earned two points in the Fences and one in the Flat. Zemp scored an impressive 86 in the Flat riding Jockamo for a team point. Rubin earned a team-high score of 88 riding Jockamo in the Fences for a team point, while Patenaude claimed a point with a score of 72 riding Oliver. Also in the Fences, Bellfield received a score of 82 riding Mozart while Mackenna Moss scored a 76 riding Bruno. In the Flat, Bellfield and Collier scored a 78 and 76, respectively, while Kristin Palmer earned a 69 riding Zeus.

The Hornets have one more NCEA competition on the schedule before the conference postseason. Lynchburg will host Berry on Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. before the ODAC Championships from Wednesday, March 18 through Saturday, March 21 in Amherst, Va.
