LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team earned a 20–11 victory over Hood College Tuesday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.
Lynchburg (7-1, 1-0) built momentum as the game progressed, using a dominant middle stretch to separate from Hood (2-4). The teams were even after the first quarter with four goals apiece, but the Hornets gained control in the second period, outscoring the Blazers 7–2 to take an 11–6 lead into halftime.
The Hornets continued their push after the break, scoring six goals while allowing just one in the third quarter to extend their advantage to 17–7. Hood outscored Lynchburg 4–3 in the final period, but the Hornets' earlier surge proved decisive in the 20–11 result.
McKenna Steinau led Lynchburg offensively with five goals and two assists, finishing with a team-high seven points. Sydney Dumas also had a strong outing, recording four goals and four assists for eight total points while leading the team with nine shots and eight shots on goal.
Hayli Williams added three goals for the Hornets, while Neely Morris and Mya Hausauer each contributed two goals to help power the Lynchburg attack.
Additional scoring came from Emmy Clay, Taylor Daugherty, Gabriella Strano, and Lily Messineo, each of whom found the back of the net once to round out the Hornets' balanced offensive effort.
Lynchburg finished with a 30–20 advantage in total shots and a 25–14 edge in shots on goal. The Hornets also controlled the draw circle, winning 21 draw controls compared to Hood's 12, and recorded 20 ground balls.
The Hornets resume action at home on Friday, as they play host to Rhodes on Friday, March, 19.
