Forest, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg equestrian team earned three of four yearly awards in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Amaya Bellfield was named the Flat Rookie of the Year and Fences Co-Rookie of the Year, while
Abby Zemp was tabbed the Flat Rider of the Year.
Bellfield had a stellar freshman campaign. In the flat, she won six head-to-head team points and averaged a score of 79.6. She was awarded three MOPs in the flat and produced a season-high score of 89 in the event against Sewanee at home. In the fences, she averaged a score of 83.4 throughout her 10 meets. Head-to-head, she totaled seven wins, including three on the road. Her highest performance of the season in the fences came against Sweet Briar at home, scoring an 88.5.
Zemp was one of the top performers across the country in the flat across both single and dual discipline. She went a perfect 10-for-10 in head to head matchups, including four road wins. Her highest score of the season came against Centenary at home, scoring an 89 and earning the MOP award. In six of her 10 meets, she scored above 80, and she averaged a score of 81.6 across the whole season.
Lynchburg prepares for the ODAC Head-to-Head Tournament and heads in as the top-seeded team. The Hornets will face the winner of Sewanee vs. Berry on Friday, March 20 at 10 a.m. in Amherst, Va. at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center.
