Lynchburg Claims Fourth Consecutive Sweep in Dominant Fashion

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg softball squad picked up it's fourth straight sweep and ninth consecutive win in their doubleheader against the Randolph Wildcast, 16-1 and 10-2.

Game 1: Lynchburg 16, Randolph 1

The Hornets (16-8, 6-0 ODAC) began the day with an explosive offensive performance against Randolph (2-18, 0-6 ODAC), highlighted by a nine-run third inning.

Alex Love led the offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Sarah Watts added a hit, an RBI, and two walks, while Helen Maddux drove in two runs. Sydney Bryant contributed a 1-for-2 performance with two RBI and two runs scored, and Layla Lietzan tallied two hits and an RBI.

After a scoreless frame to begin the affair, the bats began to catch fire in the second inning. An Abby Lockhart groundout to second base drove in Hailey Schildt for the first run of the day.

Lynchburg broke the game open in the third, with nine runs coming across on six hits. Maddux singled to left field with two runners on to bring in another run. Three Randolph errors resulted in three more Lynchburg runs to give the Hornets a 5-0 edge. The Hornets continued the barrage with four consecutive hits, plating five additional runs.

Lynchburg continued to add on with two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. Bryant delivered a two-RBI triple in the final frame, and Bryanna Orange followed with an RBI double to cap the scoring.

Kate Charlton earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on four hits across three innings with one strikeout. Bryant closed out the final two innings without allowing a hit.


Game 2: Lynchburg 10, Randolph 2

In game two, Lynchburg completed the sweep with a 10-2 win behind another balanced offensive effort.

The Hornets totaled 14 hits, led by Bryant's 3-for-4 outing with an RBI and two runs scored. Alyssa Talayumptewa added two hits and two RBI, while Georgia Thompson recorded two hits and two RBI, including a triple. Love and Maddux each collected two hits, and Watts reached base four times with a hit and three walks.

Lynchburg struck first in the opening inning when Talayumptewa drove in Love on a fielder's choice.

After Randolph tied the game in the fourth, the Hornets responded with a four-run fifth inning. Thompson delivered a two-RBI triple to break the tie, Bryant followed with an RBI double, and Orange added an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1.

Lynchburg added a run in the sixth on an RBI single from Talayumptewa before pulling away in the seventh with four more runs. Lockhart drove in two with a pinch-hit single, Watts added an RBI groundout, and Maddux capped the scoring with an RBI single.

In the circle, Chase Hartford started and allowed one unearned run over three innings. McKenzie Booth earned the win in relief, giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts across four innings.
