DANVILLE, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's volleyball team secured a four-set ODAC victory on the road Tuesday evening, defeating Averett 3-1 (25-18, 29-27, 23-25, 25-19) at the E. Stuart James Grant Center.
Lynchburg (14-10, 10-5 ODAC) was powered by a balanced offensive effort, finishing with a .290 hitting percentage and 56 kills. Bryce Jackson led the way with 11 kills on a .381 clip while adding eight total blocks, totaling a team-high 19.0 points. Jeremiah Costello and Mason Kenna each contributed 12 and 15 kills, respectively, with both adding 16.0 points. Troy Trujillo added eight kills, and Joshua Davis chipped in six kills on an efficient .455 hitting percentage.
Will Radi orchestrated the offense with 39 assists, guiding a Hornets attack that hit above .300 in both the second and fourth sets. Defensively, Lynchburg totaled 14 blocks and 36 digs, with Costello leading the back row with 10 digs.
Lynchburg set the tone early, taking control of the opening frame with a .217 hitting percentage while holding Averett to just .069. The Hornets capitalized on errors and controlled the pace throughout to secure a 25-18 win.
The second set proved to be the most competitive of the match, featuring nine ties and five lead changes. Lynchburg delivered its strongest offensive showing of the night with 20 kills at a .325 clip. Despite Averett pushing late, the Hornets held their composure in extra points to claim a 29-27 victory and take a 2-0 match lead.
Averett responded in the third, using a more efficient offensive stretch to edge Lynchburg 25-23. The Hornets still hit .265 in the frame, but the Cougars capitalized on key moments to extend the match.
Lynchburg closed the door in the fourth set, regaining control behind a .333 hitting percentage and a steady defensive presence. The Hornets limited Averett's opportunities and pulled away late to secure the 25-19 set win and the 3-1 match victory.
With the win, Lynchburg continues its strong push in ODAC play, reaching double-digit conference victories on the season.
