Forest, Va. -- After phenomenal performances from all University of Lynchburg track & field student-athletes last week,
Kacey Kelly and
Micah Leech were highlighted as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Kelly participated in four events this past week at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic and thrived in all of them. She took the top spot in the triple jump with a mark of 11.83m, which registered as the fifth-best mark across all of division III this season. She also was part of the 4x100-meter team that placed second overall with a time of 47.90, the 22nd-fastest time in DIII this season. Additionally, she took third place in both the javelin throw (36.41m) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.93).
Leech traveled south for the Duke Invitational, hosted by Duke University, to compete in the decathlon and placed third overall in a field filled with division I athletes. He totaled 6,712 points, which is the fifth-most in program history. The junior's stellar performance was highlighted by third-place finishes in the long jump (22' 9¾" or 6.95m) and 110-meter hurdles (15.12).
The track & field squad prepares for the Virginia Challenge, hosted by UVA, on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, as well as the WildCat Invitational at Randolph on Saturday, April 18.
